The Ford offered rear inflatable safety belt for the 2014 Fusion lineup with which this vehicle becomes the only vehicle in the segment with such a safety feature. The rear inflatable safety seat belt provides additional safety to the rear seat passengers specially to the children and senior adults who are highly exposed to the neck, head and chest injuries. The industry’s first rear inflatable seat belt was introduced by the Ford Motors in 2011 Ford Explorer and now is extended to six Ford and Lincoln models including Ford Explorer, Ford Fusion, Ford Flex, Ford Taurus and two Lincoln models including Lincoln MKT and MKZ. In this regard, the 2014 Ford Fusion is the only vehicle in the segment of mid-size segment with the rear inflatable safety belts joining the other safety features including driver assist technologies. The safety feature is also offered to the Ford Fusion Hybrid and Ford Fusion Energi.

For regular use the inflatable belts act like common safety belts and are compatible to boosters and child car seats. However, unlike the conventional belts, at the time of the crash the inflatable safety belt distributes crash forces across the passenger’s torso over five times. When the pressure distributes on a larger area will automatically reduce the pressure on the chest of the passenger and controls the sudden motion of head and neck to reduce injury

chances. The safety experts said that the rear seat is the safest area of a vehicle and with the introduction of this technology Ford is offering a more safe and secure vehicle for all the occupants. With the use of such advanced driver assist technologies, Ford gains the national share especially in the southeastern, western regions of the United States. Compared with the 2012’s first half, the sale of the Ford Fusion rose about 17.8 percent in the first half of the 2013.
